Create a Quick PRF/Annual Forage Estimate
The page for building PRF/Annual Forage estimates is divided into two sections: Coverage Information (a) and Scenario Information (b).
The steps for creating Annual Forage and PRF estimates vary slightly.
1. | Go to: Estimator > Quick Estimates > Quick PRF/Annual Forage Estimate or Estimator > Quick Estimates > View Quick Estimates > select "Create Quick PRF/Annual Forage Estimate" from the --Select Quick Estimate to Create-- dropdown. The Create Quick PRF/Annual Forage Estimate page opens. |
2. | In the Coverage Information section, select a Reinsurance Year, State, and County to use for the estimate. The Scenario Information refreshes based on your selections to include the Plan, available Grid IDs, and the Interval grid. |
3. | To create an estimate for Annual Forage, from the Commodity dropdown, select "Annual Forage". The System updates the Scenario Information to reflect Annual Forage fields. |
4. | If desired, before moving onto the Scenario Information section, in the Estimate Name field, give the estimate a name using up to 60 characters that will help you identify it among other estimates on the View Quick Estimates page later. |
5. | In the Scenario Information section, the Plan is displayed based on the State/County selected above. Continue to the next step. |
6. | From the Grid ID dropdown, select an available grid ID. This list is populated from the ADM for the State/County selected. |
NOTE: The Grid ID field label is a hyperlink. If needed, you can click the hyperlink to open the Annual Forage Grid Locator website in a new browser tab.
7. | In the Insured Acres field, type the number of insurable acres that the grower wants to insure on this coverage. The grower does not have to insure all acres. |
8. | In the Share (%) field, type the grower’s share for the insurable acres as a decimal value. |
9. | In the Growing Season field, indicate which growing season to apply to the estimate. |
10. | In the Productivity Factor box, use the arrows to indicate the percentage of the county value the grower expects for the coverage. Choosing 100% indicates that the grower will produce the same as the county yield. You can select a value between 60 and 150 (e.g., 81, 100, 104). |
11. | From the Intended Use dropdown, select an option. |
12. | When "Haying" is the selected Intended Use, an Irrigation Practice must be selected. Your options are "Irrigated" or "Non-Irrigated". When "Grazing" is selected, the only available Irrigation Practice option is "No Practice Specified". |
13. | From the Options dropdown, select an option, if applicable. |
14. | In the Intervals grid, select or deselect the checkboxes next to the intervals you want to insure the coverage for. You can select as few as 2 for the RI plans and 3 for VI plans. |
NOTE: You cannot select overlapping intervals (i.e., JAN-FEB and FEB-MAR together are invalid since they share the month of February). With this restriction, the maximum number of intervals allowed per coverage is six (6).
15. | Once you’ve selected the intervals, edit the Acres or % of Value for each chosen interval. This value should reflect the importance of each interval to the coverage. However, you cannot give any single interval more or less than the maximum and minimum allowed by the ADM for the State/County. The % of Value for all selected intervals must sum to 100%; the Acres must sum to the Insured Acres entered above the grid. |
TIP: To evenly divide the Insured Acres value across the selected intervals, click the Divide Among Intervals button above the grid. The System divides the Insured Acres for you, and then, you can edit the given values as needed.
16. | In the Coverage Levels grid, select or deselect the checkboxes next to the coverage levels you want insure the coverage for. By default, all coverage levels are selected. |
17. | Once you're done selecting intervals and coverage levels, click Calculate. For each of the coverage levels selected, the Liability, Base Premium, Grower Premium, and Premium Per Acre are calculated. |
A Historical Indemnities grid appears and displays estimated historical indemnities and averages based on the selected intervals for a given Coverage Level and Historical Range. All selected intervals are included in the yearly average — even those with $0 indemnity. "N/A" indicates that Actual Index Value was not available yet. |
18. | When you've completed your estimate, click one of the following: |
• | Save: Saves the estimate, and you remain on the Create/Maintain Quick PRF/Annual Forage Estimate page. |
• | Save & Add: Saves the estimate and opens a new Create Quick PRF/Annual Forage Estimate page so you can add another estimate. |
• | Save & Exit: Saves the estimate and closes the Create/Maintain Quick PRF/Annual Forage Estimate page. You are taken to the View Quick Estimates page. |

After saving, the System assigns an estimate number to the record. All estimate numbers are 7-digit numbers, sequentially assigned, that end in the letter “E”. For example,"0000000E" and "0000001E" would indicate the first and second estimates built within the System. Along with the estimate number, the user and date created are also saved with the estimate. |
