Create Custom Labels for Fields
All Reinsurance Years
To customize the map surface and make field identification easier, the System allows users to create custom labels. These labels can be applied to individual fields or to all fields on the map.
NOTE: When custom labels are created, the generic labels from the Grower Fields layer are disabled. However, the label values selected in the Grower Fields labels can be displayed for a single selected field by clicking the refresh button on the Label Editor.
Determine Label Style
1. | With the Labels layer turned on, click the Labels Editor button (). |
2. | Select a single field on the map surface to change. |
3. | In the Custom Label Text textbox, any custom text currently in place is shown for the selected field (highlighted in orange). |
NOTE: If Label values were selected on the Grower Labels section of the Layers panel, then the label values can be pulled into the Custom Label Text box by clicking the refresh icon.
4. | To add or update the label shown on the map with custom text, type the text in the textbox. The label is updated as you type. |
NOTE: If not adding custom text but only displaying the values from the Grower Fields layer, for the label values to display, you will need to first click Create and then click the Refresh button again.
5. | To further customize the label, make these additional selections: |
• | Font: Select a font from the Font dropdown. "Arial" is selected by default as it’s currently the only font option. |
• | Weight: Currently, only "Bold" is available. To bold the selected Font, click B. To remove bold, click B again. |
• | Size, Width, & Angle: To change the size of the font size, width of the label's outline, and the angle at which to display the labels, drag the respective sliders to adjust the option's value. |
• | Color & Outline: To select a color for the font and for the label outline, click in the respective field, and using the color slider, select a hue and then use the color picker to select a color value within that hue for the field's label. The selected color is displayed in the field. |
• | Align: To change the alignment of the custom label, click one of the alignment options: Alight Left, Align Middle, or Align Right. |
Choose a Label Line Style
You have the choice to turn on the dashed line feature for labels that are moved from the center of the field. When enabled, labels dragged from their original position will be anchored with a dashed line. To turn the label on, select "ON" for the Label Line Style field.
If you don’t want to create a label line, skip to Step 8.
6. | To customize the dashed line visible when a label is manually moved off of its respective field (usually to improve visibility), in the Label Line Style section, make these additional customization selections: |
• | Width: To change the width (thickness) of the dash, drag the slider to adjust the option's value. |
• | Dash: To change the length of the line, use the spinner arrow in each of the two fields to choose a line length. The first field specifies the primary dash length and the second field specifies the space between dashes. |
• | Color: To select a color for the font and for the dash, using the color slider, select a hue and then use the color picker to select a color value within that hue for the dash line. The selected color is displayed in the field. |
Add Additional Label
7. | To add an additional label for the selected field, select Add Additional Label. When selected, a text box is displayed for creating an additional custom label. This label will inherit the label styles of the primary label but will not have a label line despite being capable of being moved. This second label will not have any default information—when a user selects to apply a template to all fields, the 2nd label will not get updated content but will inherit any updated label styles applied to the primary label for the field. |
Save/Update a Custom Label
Once you’ve selected label and line style additions or updates, the changes must be saved.
8. | Click Update. The selected field (highlighted orange) will display the new label options. |
To improve readability of labels, they can be moved from the center of a field to a location better for the user. When a label is moved, a line can be created to visually connect the label to its field.
Move a Label
Label lines can be styled with different widths, dashes, and colors.
1. | To move a label to a different location than the default location to improve readability or printing, with the label's field selected, click the reposition icon () on the map. |
2. | Mouse over the label you are moving until the arrow cursor becomes a hand cursor and then drag the label into the preferred position. |
NOTE: If the label line style is "on", a line displays to connect the label to its respective field.
3. | Click Update to save repositioning. |

Clicking the Refresh button () on the Label Editor tab will refresh data for the selected field to show this information.
